Black Panther Review

Black Panther was written and directed by Ryan Coogler and follows the story of T'Challa (Chadwick Boseman) as he returns home to claim his mantle of King of his beloved land of Wakanda after the death of his father. I was beyond excited for the movie when hearing Ryan Coogler was going to be directing this film. After his work on movies like Creed and Fruitvale Station he quickly grew to be a director I loved. I am also a pretty big Black Panther fan as well. I was always fascinated with him growing up and was a pretty big fan of his comic story arc of The Man Without Fear where he took over defending Hells Kitchen from Daredevil. I had a lot of expectations for this film going in probably more than I have had for other marvel films the story lines available and the directors prior work. Leaving the theater I was very satisfied with the movie we got. I don't think this film could have been done better, it immediately grew to the top of my favorite Marvel films.

Let's jump into what worked:

1. Characters- Ryan Coogler broke the Marvel curse of poor movie villains. The character of Erik Killmonger (Michael B Jordan) was perfect. This is one of those few villains that is very understandable and this has to to with excellent writing. When it comes to villains, I enjoy when you can understand them and see things from their point of view. I thought Coogler did an excellent job at crafting a menacing and scary villain but one that is understood. He allowed us to see both sides of Erik Killmonger and by doing so we are able to root against him in a way that is different than most. We see early on in the film that the character of T'Challa is a man that shows mercy to his enemies and this sets up an extremely fun dynamic as T'Challa has to battle off against Killmonger. Along side the main character of T'Challa are Nakai, Okoye and Shuri all three of these characters we wonderful additions to this film. I thought they were fun and exciting and added a good sense of humor to this film. All around every character extremely well developed and likable.

2. Direction- This was easily the biggest stand out of this film. Coogler commanded the screen in almost all areas. I could tell he brought his experience with his prior two films to help create a wonderful movie. There was this sense of creativeness that just came across with almost every shot. He took this smaller comic book character and just made him huge. The style and the tone that Coogler had created was almost dramatic at times. The action in this movie was very exciting as well and Cooglers voice showed. After seeing his prior work he definitely has a style when it comes to action, he loves to utilize long takes that just mesmerize you and suck the audience in. This was my favorite of his already strong and likable work.

3. Writing- I enjoyed how well written this film script was. Not just in character development but in story telling as well. The dialogue in Black Panther was very captivating and felt pretty natural. The dialogue scenes between Killmonger and T'Challa were very good and didn't need much beyond just a conversation to be intense. I realized halfway throughout this film it wasn't going to be an action packed blockbuster film but relied heavily on dialogue and script. I was perfectly fine with this because it was almost better than the action sequences that were very good.

I didn't have any cons with Black Panther.

Overall, I loved this Black Panther. Ryan Coogler worked hard to create a very fun and exiting movie that just left me with a smile on my face. Chadwick Boseman and Michael B Jordan were an excellent pairing and fun to see against one another. Black Panther was an excellent stand alone Marvel film that was a lot of fun to watch. From the writing to directing it was just a near perfect film in my eyes. I highly recommend going to see Black Panther in theaters. I am going to give Black Panther an A+.

It Comes At Night Review

It Comes At Night is the story of  six different people and their story of survival after a tragic event begins to diminish the worlds population. It Comes At Night was written and directed by Trey Edward Shults and stars Joel Edgerton, Christopher Abbott, Carmen Ejogo, Riley Keough, Griffin Faulkner and Kelvin Harrison Jr.  I was very excited for this movie after seeing all of the trailers and marketing for this film. I was expecting and exciting and gripping thriller. One that would keep me on my toes and one have a strong sense of excitement. It's safe to say.. I was wrong, but in the best possible way. It Comes At Night was absolutely nothing like I thought it was going to be and that was honestly the best part about it. It was an unconventional and a gigantic risk, and that is what I think we need more of. This movie was genuinely creepy and had a lot of scenes that caused the hair on the back of my neck to stand up. I was enthralled in every scene of this movi...

Spider-Man:Homecoming Review *SPOILER FREE*

Spider-Man: Homecoming was directed by Jon Watts and stars Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Marisa Tomei, Jon Favreau, Robert Downey Jr, Jacob Batalon and Civil War and is the story of Peter Parker learning to become Spider-Man. I am a huge Spider-Man fan, I loved the first two Sam Raimi films. Spider-Man 2 being one of the most important films I have seen. It was after Spider-Man 2 I wanted to start watching movies and learning as much as I could. So this was a movie that I was really excited to see but it had a lot of expectations to meet in my eyes. After seeing this movie, most of my expectations were met but a few were not. This was a really fun movie and one that I enjoyed a lot. I just found this movie to be a little underwhelming. Zendaya. It is the newest marvel film, and their first chance to make a Spider-Man movie. It takes place a few months after the events off But first let's take a look at the positives: 1. Tone - This was a true Spider-Man movie ...

Dunkirk Review

Dunkirk was directed by Christopher Nolan and was the dramatic depiction of the Battle of Dunkirk. It stars a wide variety of actors like Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance, Fionn Whitehead, Jack Lowden, Harry Styles and Cillian Murphy. I was really excited to see Dunkirk , I am a fan of war movies and I think Nolan is a terrific director. After walking out of Dunkirk , I was really impressed. The whole premise of this movie is not what I thought it would be. I am used to getting the stereotypical war movie, Dunkirk was anything but that. It was innovative and gripping and chose to tell a really compelling story in the most creative way. This was a visual masterpiece. Let's look at the best parts: 1. The Production - This movie was unbelievably real in it's production. Nolan used as many practical effects as he could. It was constructed with real planes, real boats and real locations. Nolan didn't cut any corners in his portrayal of this battle. I was just...
