Thor: Ragnarok Review

Thor: Ragnarok was directed by Taika Waititi, the director behind What We Do in the Shadows and Hunt for the Wilderpeople. It follows Thor as he finds himself in a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against the Hulk, his former ally and fellow Avenger. Thor's quest for survival leads him in a race against time to prevent the all-powerful Hela from destroying his home world and the Asgardian civilization. Headed into Thor: Ragnarok I was pretty excitied, I was a fan of both previous Thor's and a fan of Taika Waitit's work. I thought both What We Do in the Shadows and Hunt For the Wilderpeople were extremely funny and overlooked. Last night as I left the theater I left with the biggest smile on face. Thor: Ragnarok was easily the most refreshing comic book movie made today. I immediately said that Thor: Ragnarok is my favorite Marvel movie. Taika Waititi did something amazing with this movie and made it truly unlike any other Marvel movie out there. It was fresh, funny, intense and intelligent. From the opening scene to the credits my eyes were glued to the screen.

Let's take a look at what worked:

1. Style and Direction-  Taika Waititi's direction of this film was truly amazing. Very rarely do directors steal the show from the actors, but this movie is a prime example of how a director's presence can be felt on screen. It was a colorful and vibrant looking film that had just something special about it. At times there were shots that looked like a painting. Taika Waititi brought a the essence of a small indie film and made this beautiful looking Blockbuster that I truly believe will changed the game for the better.

2. Comedy- This movie was funnier than most, it showed up most comedies. Taika Waititi utilized comedy as a fun character trait for Thor and Hulk. He took them out of their element. He made them more than just these characters that were strong. He gave them a sense of humor and allowed the audience to laugh with them. Taika Waititi also appeared in the film as the character Korg and it was hilarious. I was surprised by Chris Hemsworth's performance in this movie as he was the funniest part.

3. Action- The actions sequences in this movie were extremely intense. Especially in the opening scene. Whenever an action sequence was on screen I almost had then intense feeling. The fight between Thor and Hulk has become one of my favorite Marvel fight scenes. As well as the fight scene in the 3rd act. I think Waititi didn't allow the fights to become larger than the characters themselves like some other marvel movies allow, He let them be about the characters rather than the spectacle. He showed vulnerability to the Hulk as well as Thor.

4. Score and Soundtrack- The score and soundtrack of this movie was terrific. It helped emphasize the world Waititi was creating. It fit extremely well and he even had a throw back to Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory with the song "Pure Imagination" as Thor was introduced to the Grand Master who made him fight the Hulk. The score fit perfectly with everything on screen. It was subtle yet enough to elevate it to the next level.

5. Villain-  I didn't know how I felt about the villain Hela at first, but after thinking about it for a while, I am an fan. Kate Blanchett really gave a fun performances and I would put her up as one of the better marvel villain's there has been. I really enjoyed her work on screen, she was pretty menacing and fun to watch.

6. Chris Hemsworth- Chris was terrific in this movie, this was easily the best that I have seen him. He nailed the comedy aspect of the movie as well as helped create a compelling character that I was invested in. I think he is going to become one of the most interesting and exciting Avengers going forward. I am excited to see see him in Infinity War as it will be fun to watch him interact with the other members of the Avengers.

I can't think of any issues I have with Thor: Ragnarok.

Overall, to me this movie was near perfect film making. I was blown away by the entertainment value and the style of this movie. I was already a fan of Waititi before this movie came out and now I think he's become one I will make really make note of following. I think this is the best Marvel movie in recent years. It was purely entertaining. I got lost in the comedy as well as the action. I think both Chris Hemsworth and Taika Waititi have made the movie of their career. I am going to give Thor: Ragnarok an A+.

It Comes At Night Review

It Comes At Night is the story of  six different people and their story of survival after a tragic event begins to diminish the worlds population. It Comes At Night was written and directed by Trey Edward Shults and stars Joel Edgerton, Christopher Abbott, Carmen Ejogo, Riley Keough, Griffin Faulkner and Kelvin Harrison Jr.  I was very excited for this movie after seeing all of the trailers and marketing for this film. I was expecting and exciting and gripping thriller. One that would keep me on my toes and one have a strong sense of excitement. It's safe to say.. I was wrong, but in the best possible way. It Comes At Night was absolutely nothing like I thought it was going to be and that was honestly the best part about it. It was an unconventional and a gigantic risk, and that is what I think we need more of. This movie was genuinely creepy and had a lot of scenes that caused the hair on the back of my neck to stand up. I was enthralled in every scene of this movi...

Spider-Man:Homecoming Review *SPOILER FREE*

Spider-Man: Homecoming was directed by Jon Watts and stars Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Marisa Tomei, Jon Favreau, Robert Downey Jr, Jacob Batalon and Civil War and is the story of Peter Parker learning to become Spider-Man. I am a huge Spider-Man fan, I loved the first two Sam Raimi films. Spider-Man 2 being one of the most important films I have seen. It was after Spider-Man 2 I wanted to start watching movies and learning as much as I could. So this was a movie that I was really excited to see but it had a lot of expectations to meet in my eyes. After seeing this movie, most of my expectations were met but a few were not. This was a really fun movie and one that I enjoyed a lot. I just found this movie to be a little underwhelming. Zendaya. It is the newest marvel film, and their first chance to make a Spider-Man movie. It takes place a few months after the events off But first let's take a look at the positives: 1. Tone - This was a true Spider-Man movie ...

Dunkirk Review

Dunkirk was directed by Christopher Nolan and was the dramatic depiction of the Battle of Dunkirk. It stars a wide variety of actors like Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance, Fionn Whitehead, Jack Lowden, Harry Styles and Cillian Murphy. I was really excited to see Dunkirk , I am a fan of war movies and I think Nolan is a terrific director. After walking out of Dunkirk , I was really impressed. The whole premise of this movie is not what I thought it would be. I am used to getting the stereotypical war movie, Dunkirk was anything but that. It was innovative and gripping and chose to tell a really compelling story in the most creative way. This was a visual masterpiece. Let's look at the best parts: 1. The Production - This movie was unbelievably real in it's production. Nolan used as many practical effects as he could. It was constructed with real planes, real boats and real locations. Nolan didn't cut any corners in his portrayal of this battle. I was just...
