Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets Review

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets was directed by Luc Besson and stars Dane Dehann as Major Valerian, the galaxies most decorated federal agent. It is the story of Valerian's attempt to protect Alpha (the city of a thousand planets) from an evil force threatening to destroy Alpha along side his partner, Sergeant Larueline, played by Cara Delevingne. Now, I was not very excited for this movie. I didn't think it looked that interesting, and to be honest going into the movie my expectations were pretty low. I sucked it up though and went to see Valerian, and I was pretty underwhelmed with what I saw. I thought Valerian was an okay movie for the most part but it definitely had more negatives than positives. Let's take a look at what worked: 1. CGI - The CGI in this film was breathtaking. It looked beautiful and I was very impressed with what I was looking at. It was definitely a movie that pushes the limits of CGI and something most will have to...

Dunkirk Review

Dunkirk was directed by Christopher Nolan and was the dramatic depiction of the Battle of Dunkirk. It stars a wide variety of actors like Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance, Fionn Whitehead, Jack Lowden, Harry Styles and Cillian Murphy. I was really excited to see Dunkirk , I am a fan of war movies and I think Nolan is a terrific director. After walking out of Dunkirk , I was really impressed. The whole premise of this movie is not what I thought it would be. I am used to getting the stereotypical war movie, Dunkirk was anything but that. It was innovative and gripping and chose to tell a really compelling story in the most creative way. This was a visual masterpiece. Let's look at the best parts: 1. The Production - This movie was unbelievably real in it's production. Nolan used as many practical effects as he could. It was constructed with real planes, real boats and real locations. Nolan didn't cut any corners in his portrayal of this battle. I was just...

Wish Upon Review

Wish Upon is the latest movie by John R. Leonetti, and stars Joey King as Claire, a teenage girl who is fairly shy and reserved. One day Claire's father ( Ryan Phillipe ) brings her a Chinese music box, that also serves as an ancient wishing box. The box gives the user seven wishes, but each time a wish is used a blood price must be paid. I saw this movie at 4:50 on a Tuesday by myself and was the only one in the theater. I was thankful for this situation, because it gave me the opportunity to audible sigh whenever something dumb happened. Which was a lot. Now, typically I always want to give movies a fair chance. I never like to fully tear a movie down. I really like to give credit where it's due, because I understand that people work very hard to make a movie. That being said I struggle to give credit to Wish Upon . There is an unspoken rule in Hollywood that every January we get a super dumb horror movie that is just painfully bad. This movie belonged in that spo...

War for the Planet of the Apes Review

War for the Planet of the Apes was directed by Matt Reeves and my most anticipated film for this summer, hands down. I absolutely love Matt Reeve's directing style, landing him in a top list of my favorites. I fell in love with his directing style of Cloverfield , being what I think to be one of the best found footage movies to date. He then floored me with his direction of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes . So to have a very talented director coming back to finish up what I believed to be one of the best starts to a trilogy ever, was riveting for me. I was truly excited to go and finish this trilogy, and was not disappointed. This movie truly is a masterpiece in my eyes. From beginning to end, it had my complete and full attention. It also has what I consider to be one of the best dialogue driven scenes in recent years. It felt so real and so exciting and to see something like this on screen was just inspiring. Let's examine what worked: 1. Motion ...

Spider-Man:Homecoming Review *SPOILER FREE*

Spider-Man: Homecoming was directed by Jon Watts and stars Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Marisa Tomei, Jon Favreau, Robert Downey Jr, Jacob Batalon and Civil War and is the story of Peter Parker learning to become Spider-Man. I am a huge Spider-Man fan, I loved the first two Sam Raimi films. Spider-Man 2 being one of the most important films I have seen. It was after Spider-Man 2 I wanted to start watching movies and learning as much as I could. So this was a movie that I was really excited to see but it had a lot of expectations to meet in my eyes. After seeing this movie, most of my expectations were met but a few were not. This was a really fun movie and one that I enjoyed a lot. I just found this movie to be a little underwhelming. Zendaya. It is the newest marvel film, and their first chance to make a Spider-Man movie. It takes place a few months after the events off But first let's take a look at the positives: 1. Tone - This was a true Spider-Man movie ...
