Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Review *SPOILER FREE*

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was written and directed by James Gunn (wrote and directed the first) and Stars Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Bradey Cooper, Zoe Saldana, Michael Rooker, Kurt Russell and Vin Diesel and is the continuation of the Guardians of the Galaxy adventure. I was a gigantic fan of the first Guardians, it being my favorite marvel movie right, next to Ant-Man. Having seen Guardians 2.. my favorite marvel movie is still Guardians of the Galaxy 1 and Ant-Man. Overall I had a fantastic time with Guardians and I think it beats most Marvel movies out there. Especially on the comedy side. I was very pleased with what I was watching. It didn’t try to outdo every other superhero movies or raise the bar in any way, and in doing that, it raised a bar in a very special way. Guardians of the Galaxy 2 was very comfortable with being a sequel. Which is something we don’t get a lot of. It is by far my favorite sequel of the MCU and an all-around really awesome movie. So often we see Studios and directors try to outdo themselves or make something bigger and better, but when what they gave us originally was perfectly fine, it just feels like their money hungry and in the case of Guardians of the Galaxy, better than fine. So when Director James Gunn accepted that he wasn’t going to try to fix what was never broken, he made another really awesome and really fun movie.

So let’s get into what worked:

Comedy- This is by far one of the funniest MCU movies out there, if not the funniest. This movie had me laughing out loud and probably annoying some people around me because of just how funny this movie was. It was witty, smart and over all just fit the tone. Plus, it was clean humor, which always makes me a little happy when comedy isn’t reliant on dirtiness to be funny. Dave Bautista (Drax) really hit it out of the park with this one!

Tone- It’s not every day we get an MCU movie, so I am always looking forward to when the next one does come out, however, lately they just follow the same format. It doesn’t feel that original anymore and like someone is beating a drum. Guardians didn’t do that, instead of making a big action packed superhero movie, it cared about story and took the audience on an adventure. I greatly appreciated that. Guardians 2 was more of character movie, than it was an action movie. It explored the lives of the Guardians and really focused on two characters a lot more than I expected it to. Yondu and Rocket have one of the best scenes in the movie! When Yondu explains his backstory and says he and Rocket aren’t that different it really added a cool level of depth to the movie. Also, Nebula was really a lot more fleshed out in this movie, and we learn why she is so mean and evil. Overall it really surprised me just how much James Gunn was willing to care about the characters and give us, the audience, an emotional connection to them!

The Action- I’ll be honest, one of the quickest ways to get me to give up on a film is poorly edited action sequences or confusing sequences. I really hate when I feel like I don’t know where I am in a fight scene or what is going on. Guardians didn’t really have this problem! I never once felt removed from what I was watching, or felt as though I didn’t understand it. It all felt natural and I really appreciated it. Also, Rocket once again steals the show with one of the coolest scenes in the movie. Good job, James Gunn.

Every movie has flaws:

Kurt RusselI think Kurt is an amazing actor and he is in one of my favorite movies of 2015, The Hateful Eight, I know that Kurt can act and he is great. He just felt like he didn’t belong at times. This movie was super vibrant and fast paced and times and he just didn’t deliver in a way I would’ve wanted him to. But honestly, after the first few scenes with him I didn’t care, the movie still rocked.
2
Lack of strong antagonist- Let’s be honest, Marvel has one good villain, that’s Loki. Most other characters are pretty disposable. It’s been that way for a long time, and I honestly think it’ll stay that way.. I am a firm believer the MCU did Civil War because it was a lot more interesting than any villain they could create. That’s how I felt about this movie. There were two main antagonists, and neither one are too memorable. I forgot about the first one entirely until the end of the 3rd act and one felt like he was slightly shoe horned in.

The ending- Now, no spoilers, but the ending of this movie introduce a story arch really late into the film that felt a little just tossed in there to recognize a character's role. So it was a bit unbelievable.

So let’s recap it:

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was an extremely fun movie and a solid one by James Gunn. But to me it just didn’t deliver in some aspects to make it better than the first. The first one had a clear villain and one that was a little bit more interesting.I did also feel like somethings didn’t really fit into the story or the characters’ lives.. However, I fell in love with the awesome story telling by James Gunn and it had some really awesome acting. I thought it was the funniest MCU movie yet and I can't wait to see more of them!

I give Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2 an A-

It Comes At Night Review

It Comes At Night is the story of  six different people and their story of survival after a tragic event begins to diminish the worlds population. It Comes At Night was written and directed by Trey Edward Shults and stars Joel Edgerton, Christopher Abbott, Carmen Ejogo, Riley Keough, Griffin Faulkner and Kelvin Harrison Jr.  I was very excited for this movie after seeing all of the trailers and marketing for this film. I was expecting and exciting and gripping thriller. One that would keep me on my toes and one have a strong sense of excitement. It's safe to say.. I was wrong, but in the best possible way. It Comes At Night was absolutely nothing like I thought it was going to be and that was honestly the best part about it. It was an unconventional and a gigantic risk, and that is what I think we need more of. This movie was genuinely creepy and had a lot of scenes that caused the hair on the back of my neck to stand up. I was enthralled in every scene of this movi...

Dunkirk Review

Dunkirk was directed by Christopher Nolan and was the dramatic depiction of the Battle of Dunkirk. It stars a wide variety of actors like Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance, Fionn Whitehead, Jack Lowden, Harry Styles and Cillian Murphy. I was really excited to see Dunkirk , I am a fan of war movies and I think Nolan is a terrific director. After walking out of Dunkirk , I was really impressed. The whole premise of this movie is not what I thought it would be. I am used to getting the stereotypical war movie, Dunkirk was anything but that. It was innovative and gripping and chose to tell a really compelling story in the most creative way. This was a visual masterpiece. Let's look at the best parts: 1. The Production - This movie was unbelievably real in it's production. Nolan used as many practical effects as he could. It was constructed with real planes, real boats and real locations. Nolan didn't cut any corners in his portrayal of this battle. I was just...

Spider-Man:Homecoming Review *SPOILER FREE*

Spider-Man: Homecoming was directed by Jon Watts and stars Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Marisa Tomei, Jon Favreau, Robert Downey Jr, Jacob Batalon and Civil War and is the story of Peter Parker learning to become Spider-Man. I am a huge Spider-Man fan, I loved the first two Sam Raimi films. Spider-Man 2 being one of the most important films I have seen. It was after Spider-Man 2 I wanted to start watching movies and learning as much as I could. So this was a movie that I was really excited to see but it had a lot of expectations to meet in my eyes. After seeing this movie, most of my expectations were met but a few were not. This was a really fun movie and one that I enjoyed a lot. I just found this movie to be a little underwhelming. Zendaya. It is the newest marvel film, and their first chance to make a Spider-Man movie. It takes place a few months after the events off But first let's take a look at the positives: 1. Tone - This was a true Spider-Man movie ...
