Joe? I thought your name was Arlen?

If you are reading this, then one of two things has happened:
1. I shamelessly plugged this blog somewhere.. Probably..
2. This blog has actually taken off and is actually something people read regularly.

I am assuming the first.

Well, I guess this is the part in which I begin "blogging". Before I get started, let's get some things straightened out. I apologize right now for any grammar errors there might be. Really that's all I wanted to get straightened out, now I can start "blogging".

It's no secret from the title that my name is Arlen, to be more specific it's Arlen Chastain. I am a 21 year old male and I call the medium sized town of Hutchinson, KS my home (yes, I said medium, if you live in Hutchinson please stop calling it a small town. It has a population of like 41,000) really there are like five things you need to know about me: I love Jesus Christ, Movies, Video Games, Comics and my Family.

I Love Jesus Christ

It's true. Jesus is awesome. I believe that I am a broken man and am in desperate need of a Savior. That's where Jesus comes in. I found Jesus Christ at the tender age of 16. It was a very emotional time for me and one that I am happy to share with anyone. Long story short, Jesus Christ came into my life and changed everything about it. I now attempt to live my life fully for Jesus Christ. Please notice I said attempt, I am human and will make mistakes. We all do. My humanity though is an amazing gift and one that I will cherish. My hope is that every person on this planet comes to know Jesus Christ in one way or another. Just like that Jim Gordon quote "One day I hope that you have a friend like I did, one that would plunge his hands into the filth so that you can keep yours clean."

I Love Stories

If you have ever met me then it is no secret there is a good chance that our conversation will most likely have to do with movies, video games or comics. The reason for this being, I am in love with stories. Ever since I could remember I would dive into these alternate universes of movies, games and comics. To be honest, I don't know why I am so attached to the art of story telling. My love of these mediums borders on the line of idolatry. However, I love different aspects of each of these though. Movies are by far the ones that I relate with the most, mainly because I studied them in College and they are the easiest to obtain. However, I tend to "nerd" out more about video games and comics. My specific love of each of these will be explained in a different blog post.

I Love My Family

Now before I begin on explaining this at all, I think it is necessary to explain my personal definition of "Family." To me family extends beyond relatives. Family is a group of people to whom you can turn to for anything. Cool? Phew.. Yes, I love my family. I am apart of an amazing one. Earlier in the year I quit a job, a pretty promising one at that, to go to work for a Church College ministry for free. What does this have to do with my family? Well, it has everything to do with my family. My decision to obey God and virtually uproot my life was not an easy one to do and to be honest, I wouldn't have been able to do without the support of my family. This family includes my immediate family which consists of: My mother, step-father, two sisters, one brother and two brother-in-laws. Now, it also is made up of my family at the ministry I work for. I have brothers and sisters all over that place. I love them as though they were my relatives and thus I claim each one of them as my family. Family is important to me, though my family can be large and crazy at times, I wouldn't trade any member of both my relative-family or my church-family for anything in the world.

So there you have it, a little insight to the life of Arlen Chastain. I am just your average guy, I put my shoes on one foot at a time. That's why I decided to title the entirety of this blog "The Average Joe Chronicles". I believe being average is a good thing though.. It allows me to be exactly what I am at the moment. At peace. I have God and my family to thank for that. I do hope that you come back to this blog from time to time as I will attempt to give the inside track to my take on managing a crazy family, personal hobbies and passions, my biblical and spiritual walk and the everyday awesomeness of being exactly what I love to be. An Average Joe.

It Comes At Night Review

It Comes At Night is the story of  six different people and their story of survival after a tragic event begins to diminish the worlds population. It Comes At Night was written and directed by Trey Edward Shults and stars Joel Edgerton, Christopher Abbott, Carmen Ejogo, Riley Keough, Griffin Faulkner and Kelvin Harrison Jr.  I was very excited for this movie after seeing all of the trailers and marketing for this film. I was expecting and exciting and gripping thriller. One that would keep me on my toes and one have a strong sense of excitement. It's safe to say.. I was wrong, but in the best possible way. It Comes At Night was absolutely nothing like I thought it was going to be and that was honestly the best part about it. It was an unconventional and a gigantic risk, and that is what I think we need more of. This movie was genuinely creepy and had a lot of scenes that caused the hair on the back of my neck to stand up. I was enthralled in every scene of this movi...

Spider-Man:Homecoming Review *SPOILER FREE*

Spider-Man: Homecoming was directed by Jon Watts and stars Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Marisa Tomei, Jon Favreau, Robert Downey Jr, Jacob Batalon and Civil War and is the story of Peter Parker learning to become Spider-Man. I am a huge Spider-Man fan, I loved the first two Sam Raimi films. Spider-Man 2 being one of the most important films I have seen. It was after Spider-Man 2 I wanted to start watching movies and learning as much as I could. So this was a movie that I was really excited to see but it had a lot of expectations to meet in my eyes. After seeing this movie, most of my expectations were met but a few were not. This was a really fun movie and one that I enjoyed a lot. I just found this movie to be a little underwhelming. Zendaya. It is the newest marvel film, and their first chance to make a Spider-Man movie. It takes place a few months after the events off But first let's take a look at the positives: 1. Tone - This was a true Spider-Man movie ...

Dunkirk Review

Dunkirk was directed by Christopher Nolan and was the dramatic depiction of the Battle of Dunkirk. It stars a wide variety of actors like Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance, Fionn Whitehead, Jack Lowden, Harry Styles and Cillian Murphy. I was really excited to see Dunkirk , I am a fan of war movies and I think Nolan is a terrific director. After walking out of Dunkirk , I was really impressed. The whole premise of this movie is not what I thought it would be. I am used to getting the stereotypical war movie, Dunkirk was anything but that. It was innovative and gripping and chose to tell a really compelling story in the most creative way. This was a visual masterpiece. Let's look at the best parts: 1. The Production - This movie was unbelievably real in it's production. Nolan used as many practical effects as he could. It was constructed with real planes, real boats and real locations. Nolan didn't cut any corners in his portrayal of this battle. I was just...
